So, how does the Williames Seeder work?

The Williames Seeder is an automatic seeding machine designed to seed your seedling trays quickly and accurately. It does this by dibbing a precise hole in your seed trays after which the seeder singulates your seeds with high accuracy thanks to its advanced vacuum technology.

Our standard range includes an ST750, ST1000, ST1500, ST2000 and ST2500 Seeder. In simple terms, the ST stands for ‘seed-tray’ and the number that follows it describes the number of trays that model of seeder can seed an hour. For example, the ST2500 model seeder can seed 2500 trays an hour

The seed begins its journey in the seeder’s hopper. The seeder’s vacuum then holds it on to the drum’s surface. The thin, white singulator bars allow air to flow in multiple directions, which enhance singulation. Said singulator bars knock off the seeds into your tray cells. The seeder’s precise seed placement is due to the consistent, uniform speed of your seeds’ transfer from drum to tray. And what’s more, the high-pressure air cleans every rotation to maintain its consistent, premium performance.

Seed Drum

The seed drum is the heart of this automatic seeding machine. The seed drum is made from a graphite-impregnated self-lubricating plastic and possesses a pattern of holes suiting the tray being sown.

The tray and hole sizes are stamped on the end of each drum. Our plain seed drums come in two types:

  • Single Pattern Seed Drum: The Single-Pattern Seed Drum has one hole pattern.
  • Twin Pattern Seed Drum: The Twin-Pattern Seed Drum has two hole patterns . Let’s say, for example, you are seeding brassica and coated lettuce. Your Twin Pattern seed Drum will have 0.022″ and 0.040″ hole patterns. This allows you to seed both into one type of tray.

Of course, you might have more than two types of seed to sow. Not a problem. Our automatic seeding machines allow you to easily change over seed drums. Your drums are easily slid on and off the machine’s main spindle, so you can alternate between sowing different seedling trays at will. As such, the Williames Seeder is perfect for large-scale seeding operations where multiple seed-types are sown.

How is the Williames Seeder’s accuracy achieved?

  • We ensure the dibbled hole made to place each seed is in exactly the right place (the centre – the optimal place for seed growth).
  • The operator has great control over the seeding head so that only one seed is placed in each cell (We can achieve multiple low-germinated seeds in each cell if desired).

Williames “Volcano” Needle Seed Drum

The Williames Volcano Needle Seed Drum picks up the seed on the tips of the needles. This enables air from the singulator bars to bounce off the drum and come in from underneath the seed. Singulator air, therefore, comes in from the top, sides (when there are extra singulator bars fitted), and from underneath, improving the precision by which doubles and multiple seeds can be removed. The Needle Seed Drum is usually used for odd-shaped, pointy seed like raw lettuce and uncoated, raw tomatoes and peppers/capsicums. Dibber/Dibbler Drum

The Williames Dibber Drum makes an indentation in the growing media of your tray. This ensures that your tray cells have precisely the correct depth for your seedlings to grow into healthy, vigorous plants. Maintaining correct depth ensures that the seeder automatically places your seed in the centre of the cell. After all, if placed too deep, your seeds will struggle to develop to the surface of your tray. For more information on the Dibber Drum, check out our Dibber page.
